The BV Transition Team hosts Transition Tuesdays once a month during the school year to help families learn more about resources and services in our community. These presentations are hosted via Zoom on the second Tuesday of every month. Upcoming Transition Tuesday presentations will be posted to the Transition Related Events calendar on the main page of this website. If a presentation was able to be recorded, it will be posted below for families to review.

Planning and Packing for the Adventure of Life After High School

Ability KC
Original Presentation Date: November 2022
Nancy Petersen, community liaison with Ability KC presented on all of the services provided by Ability KC. They offer a wide array of services including a peer model preschool, a driving program offering an occupational therapy evaluation, pre-driver training, as well as, complete driving evaluations, rehab therapies for anyone facing neurological issues including post concussive syndrome, rare disease, stroke, brain injury, traumatic and non-traumatic alike. Ability KC also offers employment services for those with developmental disabilities who need support determining appropriate employment, or obtaining employment. They serve all ages and take all insurances. Ability KC offers a charity program for those adults with MO or KS Medicaid in need of medical rehabilitation.

Attorney Jim Berger presented information on Special Needs Trusts and estate planning. A Special Needs Trust allows families to provide support and improve an individual's quality of life.
