What To Do Prior To Age 18

Connect with the CDDO to start the process to get on the waitlist for Home and Community Based Services. These services will help pay for targeted case management, residential support, day supports, supported employment, and personal care services. Consider joining the waitlist as soon as possible - the waitlist is currently 9 years long!
Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) is offered through Vocational Rehabilitation to assist with the transition from high school to adulthood. Vocational Rehabilitation services help to remove barriers to employment for individuals with disabilities.
Once a student turns 18, they become their own legal guardian. Parents will need to learn more about their legal options if they believe their student will be unable to evaluate and make legal, medical, or financial decisions once they turn 18.
Start thinking about what a good life looks like for your student and communicate your long-term goals to the IEP team. This will help everyone to prepare your student for the future.
